How Recognizing The Importance Of Time Management Can Save You From Stress!

Is the importance of time management over-rated? It seems everywhere we look today people are in a hurry. Modern society dictates a strong emphasis on wanting and getting things in the now. Is this you?

There is a difference between being busy and effective in your day-to-day activities. Many people seem to think being busy means being effective but in reality, this is far from the truth. This is where the importance of time management comes into play. You can complete less tasks on any given day and be more effective. In turn, you'll cut down on stress levels which in turn, has less impact on your health. No, the importance of time management is not over-rated.

One of the most annoying phrases I hear almost on a daily basis is there are not enough hours in a day. Simple fact is, there are 24 hours in every day and 168 hours in every week. That's a given. The trick is how you utilise this time.

Implementing Good Time Management Technique

Let's take a look at some ways of making your time more effective.

1. Don't over commit yourself. It goes without saying. When you take on more than you can handle, then you are asking for trouble particularly if the end result involves providing the finished product to a second party. This will quickly gain you a reputation of being unreliable.

2. Prioritize your daily tasks. You've probably heard this a zillion times but realistically, how many people really do this. The trick is not just making a prioritized list but having the discipline to stick to it. Sure, you can be a little flexible but completing tasks in relation to the "due date" of those tasks is oh, so important.

3. Set yourself a time limit to complete your tasks on any given day. For example, I start my web publishing day at 7:00am. I know it's early but it suits me. But I won't bury myself in my office for the rest of the day until it's time to go to bed. My official "knock off" time is 3.00pm, give or take a half an hour.

4. Find a balance between work and play. As explained in the previous point, sticking to a time schedule daily will help keep down stress levels. Web publishing requires having a fresh mind and no one can yet convince me my creative mind will be as good at 3:00pm than it was at 7:00am. You need to take time to enjoy some recreation even if it's sitting in front of the television and catching a good "flick."

5. Give yourself rewards for completed tasks. They can be any sort of reward you like. Some people will reward themselves several times a day. I like to going for the big reward at the end of the day. I find it keeps me motivated. Whatever works for you.

Even though people's daily circumstances will differ to mine; different profession, chores or picking up the kids from school, the ultimate aim is still the same. Find a balance between work and play; something that works for you and release yourself from that unnecessary "snowed under" effect. Do this and you too will begin to benefit from the importance of time management.
